With Lucent Delirium we're going to take it to the next level. The Do LaB
has been working around the clock to ensure that Oct 1st

What's in store for Lucent Delirium?

First off, we've teamed up with Lorin (Bassnectar) to help him release his
newest album "Mesmerizing the Ultra". He'll be playing a 2 hour set on a 4
corner turbo sound system shaking the bricks loose in the building. The
albums great, go check it out...

We're also bringing in world renowned dj Cheb i Sabbah as our special guest
to help us celebrate with his unique sounds of world music and bhangra beats.

And to spice things up a bit, we're having the dusty duo that rocked the
flower art car at Burning Man with their sexy acid jazz, Helios Jive! They
score the incredible music for Lucent Dossier and they bring us to our feet
every time!!!! If you've seen them before, then you've most likely danced
your booty off. It's fun, its fresh, its sexy, its the jive!

Also sharing their beats with us are the underground favorites David
Starfire, Patricio, Porter Tinsley, Jupiter, Dandelion, and Sammy Bliss.
Each of these dj's have been making waves in their respective communities
and we're bringing them all together for one night of madness.

The fun certainly doesn’t stop there though... We've got crazy entertainment
popping out of every corner starting with the Lucent Dossier Vaudeville
Cirque. They've been dancing up a storm and there's a new wacky show in
store for you.

Plus from San Diego, a sensual fire belly dance performance by the beautiful
ladies of Atash Maya and a cute and sassy show by DangerSassyPants.
You can also catch pieces of "Fancy", a one man clown
show by none other than Vladimir Levitansky, or gaze at an enormous junk
wall while master painters Shrine, Carlos, Jesse, and Shannon paint the hell
out of it in front of your eyes. Stop by the Stardust Salon and have
extensions put into your hair or visit Buddha Monkey's Bag of Accessories
and add a little something to bring your outfit to life. We'll also have
body painting and henna tattoos, and if you're feeling crafty you can mold
clay in a workshop with Christian the Blacksmith. Or just roam the gallery
to check out the art on the walls and sit back and relax in the

Hey Silky Winged Creatures, BassNyphs & Beautiful Dance Freaks,

I just posted dance photos from Saturday's "Dragonflies in Summer" event at Space Island. Check 'm out!

I was a late pulling out my camera at the party, so nothing was recorded before 2:00 AM. But as you will see, the music was pumpin and the dance floor was rawkin way past dawn!

Thanks to Omar, Marcella, Sharon, friends and to all the performers for creating "Dragonflies". The art, the decorations and lighting were gorgeous.

Thanks to the Space Island Crew for letting us use their awesome PlayaSpace and for being such kool kats.

Also a special thanks to Stream and Tara for donating and serving a delicious pancake and waffle breakfast at dawn--in the maple syrup spirit of Black Rock City.

Reflections (at Alchemy)

Okay, so, as Kandice would put it, the Universe has not supplied us with our ideal location for Reflections II yet, and we received a phone call from Wolfie that seemed like another door opening. TDK will be running a stage at Alchemy, the Official LA Precomression party, hosted by the folks that brought you Burn on the Fourth of July.

Does this mean we've sold out? No.

Does this mean there will be no Reflections II? Maybe, we haven't decided. If we do hold it, it will be late June in the above mentioned perfect location.

Does this mean that there won't be a Reflections Memorial day event next year? Definitely not. Last year's precomression threw against Forth of Ju-Psy, next year's may be against cinco de Mayo, who knows. But if we CAN get the location we want by next year, we'll do it.

Does this mean that you're looking for talent for your stage? Yes. Drop a line here with your sales pitch if you like, but I'd prefer you send a letter to tdk (at) tedward (dot) org. Send something to Derek too, though I'm not sure where he want's it.

fired power plant that is planned to be located just outside Gerlach. It would be the largest coal-plant in the US, and it is the old dirty coal technology. It will essentially change the land out there forever if we don't act now and sign this petition!

plume from this plant would extend hundreds of miles into what is currently one of the most pristine areas in the continental US.

Here is a list of how it would effect the area:

The plant will release more than 50 dangerous pollutants, including arsenic, lead and mercury, into the air we breathe.

The power generated will be exported to Southern California, where the law prohibits this type of plant to be built.

Coal-fired plants are the nation’s largest source of mercury pollution, known to affect children’s learning abilities even with exposure to small amounts.

Clean alternatives are available that would cost the same and produce the same quantity of electricity.

The plant will consume 14.2 millions of gallons of scarce desert ground water every day—over 5 billion gallons a year—diverting water from plants and drinking holes relied upon by deer, elk and wild horses.

At more than twice the size of the Statue of Liberty, the plant’s 650-foot tall smoke stack will tower over the desert landscape.

The plant’s coal burner emissions would be equivalent to adding about two million cars to the roadways.

During the five years of power plant construction, an estimated 100-200 trucks and 800 workers will congest normally quiet roadways daily.

More specifically about our pilot project:

Our pilot project is the building of an earth-friendly multi-purpose center for children orphaned by AIDS, for the youth group, Youth With A Vision (YWAV), and the larger community, in a poverty stricken township called Dennilton, 2 hours outside of Johannesburg. YWAV are determined to stop the spread of AIDS to their peers. They use theater and music to teach AIDS awareness and other critical issues. The HIV/AIDS rate in this part of South Africa is approximately 37%!

We are working with Eco-Architect Joe Kennedy to create this center that will be a showcase of green building design and a template for many such centers throughout the continent. It will be a place where resources can be concentrated, where aid can be efficiently distributed, where environmental education will be emphasized, and where the youth can reach their individual and collective potential.

The Dream Co(llective)

So, many of you may be familiar with me from parties, fire performances, various sexual astrology posts, or pleas for rides between LA and San Francisco. It's possible that I've talked to (or at!) you about Dream Co(llective) and how I want to establish a travelling higher conscious show with organic food, conscious music, psychedelic art, clothing and cool shit made from recycled materials, along with information on alternative ways to live outside the box, eat healthy, heal yourself naturally, etc. All broadcast by pirate radio/internet radio of course, and transported by bio-diesel buses.

Now, I want to leave every party I throw open to donations, let people pay what they can afford so everyone who wants to, gets to come. If you know me, you know I do my work with astrological guidance and Goddess oracle advice on the same principle, helping people comes first and everything else is secondary. So here's what I'm trying to do...below is a list of some of the skills I have. It's not all of them, just the ones I can think of right now. I've lead a diverse, crazy and highly nomadic lifestyle with one of the strangest array of work skills of anyone I know, so if you need something done, chances are I can do it. The first cause we want to fundraise for is a digital video camera that is open to be used by whoever in the Dream CO(llective) needs it for higher conscious causes to be recorded.

I'm aware that this is a long shot, but I want all those little places that have no clue what Burning Man is all about to have their eyes opened, too. We coastal communities are lucky because we have information sources to enlighten us and open our eyes. I'd like the rest of North America to get that same chance.

What a blessing it was to have your participation in ONE on Sat. March 5th at the HAC. It is amazing the amount of loving work and dedication that was contributed to the manifestation of our community's vision of the ONE. With gratitude and love and in my heart, I would like to acknowledge the artists, cast, crew, staff and volunteer teams, who all showed a tremendous amount of integrity and professionalism. Thank you for all of your loving contributions, each of you played an important part in creating a successful event- a powerful manifestation of a common vision.

The cast of the event, that brought the night's entertainment and promoted all over the US...Alex Grey, the DJs, bands, dancers, and performers...thank you for sharing your inspirational gifts with the community! What an honor it was to be able to witness the complete manifestation of something that was just an idea in late December '04. Watching the dream become a reality was a sacred experience for me, one that will forever live within my being, transforming my world. I am extremely blessed to have been a part of this project, co-creating conscious community space for all to inspire within.

Because of everyone's contributions, ONE was a total success.
This was the first fully Chapel-funded event in Los Angeles.
We had just under 300 participants and just over 1,000 guests join us for the festivities!
More people now know about the Chapel, it's mission, and the work of Alex Grey.
There were no major injuries or mishaps, everyone was alchemically protected.
The community came together to share ONE magical experience together.
The dissemination of good will and conscious information was priceless.
And, after expenses, we raised over $4,000 for the Chapel!
Many thanks to all of you for your community work in creating ONE!

Great news! Our LA/SB/SF family has another opportunity to show our support for Alex Grey www.AlexGrey.com and his Chapel of Sacred Mirrors http://www.cosm.org/index.html. This fundraising event, “ONE” will take place the first weekend of March 05’ in Hollywood.

I am currently looking for a production team, sound systems, lighting, decor and various talents...DJs, bands, (fire)dance troopes, hoping groups, ariel/flyers, stillt walkers, artists, poets, massage therapists etc. This will be an all-night, indoor event with Alex Grey (and family) creating a sacred space with their poetry, spoken word, and visual art.

Like Reflections 2004, “ONE” will be a fundraiser, thus, all participation will be considered a gift to Alex Grey, his family, and The Chapel of Sacred Mirrors. The COSM is a place for non-denominational worship and introspection of the infinite possibilities created when one realizes their connection to THE ONE. I support any avenue that may help to open the doors to true equality amongst all beings on Mother Earth, and I feel that COSM is one of them.

If you are an educator, a talented/visionary artist, an activist, an environmentalist, a conscience consumer, an inspiration, or one of the transcended...perhaps this project will align with your higher self's ideals and goals. Okay, so here it goes....
Bush is IN, so let's get OUT!
How would everyone feel about having Reflections in Mexico?
The novelty of another country.
A pretty four-hour drive from LA at the most.
No concerns of getting broken up.
Trees, sand, and the ocean!!!!!!

So- this is the idea....
We choose a scouting team and go down to Mexico. We go straight to the authorities and say, "we are throwing a 2,000 person party on the beach, where can we have it?" Then, tell them that we will pay them $1 per person at the fest to stay away from it...in fact, we may even want police protection from anyone else coming into the event that doesn't belong there in exchange for thier profit. I believe that we can find the perfect piece of private property and be able to work out some kind of deal with the authorities. It's amazing what a little bribeing can do for you in a corrupt country...

So- is there anyone in our Giving Tree that is from Mexico...anyone have family or friends there? Anyone know how I can reach someone with property there? Would someone who knows how to speak fluent Spanish like to come with us on the scouting trip?....we need a translator with us for solid communication. Any suggestions, connections, volunteers?

Derek did bring up the fact that we don't have the same rights there. Ted is concerned about the border patrol and souvrenty. Personally, I feel that if we find a space there, everything else will fall into place...authorities, safety, no hassel at the border...in fact, i envision a link to a Mexican Insurance company from our site for guests to purchase thier car insurance for thier trip. Anyhow, I feel like those may be things that we will find out more about when we take the first scouting trip, and start asking questions. Does anyone know a Mexican Lawyer, someone who knows Mexican law? Would love to get in contact with anyone that could help us in making this decision.

What are your thoughts?

By the way, we are discussing coolaboration with others and may extend the event to be a full week...just an idea...putting it out there....what do you think?

Dear Friends,

Our best friend is dying, We are sad as hell, and We are asking for your help. Now is the time to show that “community ”and “connections ”mean a lot more than just bopping around at late-night parties together.

Our friend ’s name is Curtis Coleman. He gives a lot to the world, and we desperately need what he gives. He runs the Cult of E.R.I.C. village at Burning Man and a member of the Pagoda of Infinite Reflection this year on the playa. Last year, he was the nation ’s most popular elementary school entertainer, reaching tens of thousands of young kids through song to teach them about safety, public spirit, and most importantly, that they have a voice. We need our children to find their voice.

Curtis now has no voice, fighting an aggressive cancer in his throat called squamous cell carcinoma. Soon Curtis will have neck dissection surgery, plus aggressive radiation & chemo. On paper his chances of survival are less than 1 in 4, but cancer victims facing far worse odds have been “miraculously ”cured when enough people came together to make it happen. Reflections II

Okay, so I finally got the call from Kandice that I've been expecting (and half dreading) for several months: she wants to pick an artist to highlite in Reflections II. I'm outta that conversation, but I CAN start on the location.

So, we need a location for Reflections II. It's looking like Songdog won't be settled by then. So, we're looking at some other location. I'm thinking that we'll need space for 1500 people if we go unrestricted, and it should be some place we can reserve for Memorial day (which may limit BLM lands). If we can't find a 1500+ person venue, then we'll have to go with Gold Creek and limit tickets to fit the space.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced plans to
launch an
outrageous new study in which participating low income families will

their children exposed to toxic pesticides over the course of two
years. For
taking part in these studies, each family will receive $970, a free

camera, a T-shirt, and a framed certificate of appreciation. The

entitled CHEERS (Childrenâ€™s Environmental Exposure Research Study)
will
look at how chemicals can be ingested, inhaled or absorbed by
children
ranging from babies to 3 years old.

HELP! VENICE BEACH IS IN JEOPARDY!

When friends or family come from out of state to visit me I am often asked to "show them LA". Without fail, I always bring them down to Venice Beach. 365 days a year you can walk down the Venice boardwalk and witness people of all race, sex, age and religion exercising freedoms of expression similar to that which so many of us only enjoy while AT Burning Man.

After a leisurely and entertaining stroll down the boardwalk I lead them out on the sand to the Venice drum circle. Here they are offered a rare opportunity to participate in an activity that is culturally meaningful. Usually we end up dancing and drumming until the climactic drumming crescendo at sunset. In a seemingly ancient and tribal way, together we bid 'farewell' to the sun. Despite any differences we are then instantly connected by many different drums all creating one music. One heartbeat.

This is LA for me.

In fact, while so many other communities have sold their soul and yielded to the insistent advance of the corporate ‘Starbucks Generation ’invasion, Venice, for the most part, has held strong. You don't need to look far away to see the 'promised land' this kind of invasion would deliver. Huntington Beach is perfect example of this homogenized transformation the developers would have for this last artist ’s stronghold.

Venice is now in jeopardy. Venice needs your help. Here is a post from Fysche to show you how you can help preserve a community that is Burner friendly.

Here are some I felt were important to share from me to you, but check out that link above to get summaries on the rest of the propositions.

Prop 64- NO

Big businesses are behind this prop so it'd make it near impossible to sue without first proving financial/property loss by an individual. They claim it will help decrease frivolous lawsuits but in actuality this weakens the only state law that allows us to take big business to court over issues like polluting the environment, engaging in unfair business practices, fraudulent advertising, etc.

Prop 66 - YES

Amends the 3 Strikes law so that only felons that are convicted of 3 violent/serious felonies will be put away 25 to life. Currently someone can be put away for life if their 3rd felony is something as trivial as stealing a loaf of bread. this Prop also toughens penalties for child sex offenders (good)

Prop 67 - YES YES YES

This will establish a 3% phone tax to help support emergency care. I trained as an EMT years ago and have seen how poorly funded and burdened our emergency care system is. This tax won't fix the underlying problem but in the meantime will provide desperately needed money to stem the tide of ER's closing due to financial woes. The opponents of this one are BIG PHONE COMPANIES. The supporters are firefighter, nurse, paramedic associations. they're asking for help, DON'T IGNORE THIS PROP

Prop 69 - BIG FUCKING NOOOOOOO

They're wanting to establish a DNA database for criminals, but this prop says if you merely get arrested and NOT convicted, they will put your biological data in the system. As I've nearly been arrested everytime I attend a protest, plus I HATE everything the Patriot Act stands for, i say a big fuck you to this one.

A friend recently told me he was upset he hadn't been introduced to sushi by his parents. Here is a new food that if you haven't tried you should.

It is a traditional vietnamese rice bread made with coconut milk, sugar, rice flour, sesame seeds, and water. It is delicious. 100X better than rice cakes, flat bread, potato bread or anything similar looking.

I was in Texas and a woman in the office who was originally from Vietnam bought it back from a local market. She gave me the whole bag. It is already half gone. It is incredible.

Apparently it is available in the Vietnamese community in LA too. Find it, buy it, eat it - Banh Trang Dua. YUMMY!

Ramifications of the Reflections event have gone completely beyond a simple hashing under the Rave act. Someone in Santa Barbera has set their guns hard on SongDog and they need our help. If anyone knows, lives with or can do a favor for a lawyer, these guys really need it, are a worthy cause, and could continue to provide a safe venue for future parties.

Dad is old, mad and tired. He is opting to put the ranch up on the market. Per my request he is inflating the asking price to 800,000. I hope this will buy time and I think it is working. When dad informed the county on his intent to sell, they were a bit stumped and said they will do some checking and get back to us. ....still waiting.

I'm considering creating an LLC and taking on partners in order to keep the ranch.

We are all pretty much in agreement that we will never be able to do our rallys or catered diners. This, of course, was our only real bread winner and kept the ranch fiscally sound.

Helping Song Dog

Unfortunately I am in the process of moving my entire life from LA and up to Santa Barbara, so it is difficult for me to have the time to do much at this moment...but within a week or so I will be better able to sit down and meditate on all this and come up with a solution for Song Dog. It's funny how things happen sometimes, but I truely believe that things happen for a reason. I feel extremely bad that this is happening to such a wonderful family and such a beautiful location...although I do not feel responsible at all for thier troubles. They are being cited and fined for various problems on thier land, including zoning, unpermitted buildings and plumbing. Technically, this has nothing to do with Reflections and/or TDK. In the end, I believe that these land issues could've come up for them no matter what event drew attention to the land. They have been running an illegal campground for some time now. There have been various other events on this land and the authorities have been there before. Why they have chosen to mess with Song Dog now is beyond me, but it is happening and we can come with a way to help them. It is unfortunate that this happened and I am willing and wanting to help out in any way that I can...but I will not and cannot take any responsibility for thier potential downfall.

So, once I have racked my brain about this, I will come to the community with my ideas about a solution. One idea I feel comfortable suggesting is... once we have found out exactly what the land needs to come up to code, then we can have a fundraiser for the money to have a collective building day on the land...and help them bring thier land up to code with our own hands. We have already started this process before Reflections by fixing the property line fence and replacing lights, etc. Then, once thier land and it's buildings are up to code, they can have a legal and permitted piece of property to still have events on. In fact, this can all be a blessing in disguise...in order to make Song Dog legal. This is one of the unfortunate consequences in owning a piece of land that has zoning problems and unpermitted buildings on it and using the land to make money. Think about all the locations we have been to as a community and how many of them do you really think are fully permitted by the local authorities...not many. If Song Dog wants to go legite, then I will do my best to help them with that...but until I have more time to contemplate this I can't come up with a solution. Please, keep those suggestions coming in...and any lawyer contacts you might have.

I truely feel that everything will work out for the best. I know when you are 'in the midst' of it, it can be hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel... but it is there, believe me...and I will do my best to make it shine brighter so that we can all aim our collective energies towards it. Thank you all for your support and suggestions thus far and I look forward to manifesting magic for Song Dog!

Dear Members of the Commission:

Thank you for the opportunity to comment on docket number 04-5027, the Granite Fox Power LLC Application under the Nevada Utility Environmental Protection Act. As you may be aware, our group has been active in issues that pertain to the economic and environmental well being of the North West Great Basin area. We have members in three states who live in this tri-state area as well as many members who visit the area regularly.

We are concerned because Granite Fox Power LLC has conducted no public feasibility studies or environmental analyses to date. We believe strongly that to permit this project prior to assessing air quality, water quantity and quality and impacts to the local area is to put the cart before the horse. We believe the following issues should be thoroughly analyzed before any permits are granted.

Air Quality:

Wilderness areas, refuges and areas of critical environmental concern are located in close proximity to the proposed site.
The plume from the plant will impact potentially hundreds of square miles of an area that is known for its high air quality.
We see no analysis of the potential for toxic chemicals and heavy metals to impact air quality, yet this industry has widely varying pollutant potential depending on the technology used. There is no discussion of the rationale for what technology will be employed here.
Drawdown of the aquifer by pumping the amounts of water necessary to run a plant of this size will impact phreatophyte growth in the basin. This will cause additional particulate matter to become airborne and further degrade air quality.
Tourist values are dependent in part on the pristine air quality that allows visibility for vast distances. The impacts to air quality will impact the tourist economy of a very large region.
Water quality:

· Coal and the chemicals associated with coal power production, can leach into the groundwater basin and contaminate the aquifer. There is no discussion of mitigation to prevent damage water, to a very limited resource in Nevada.

Water quantity:

· There is no discussion of the availability of groundwater in amounts great enough to supply such a venture. We find this to be a fatal flaw in this application. In an arid state like Nevada, water availability must be determined prior to the issuance of any permits. As there is no evidence of a power shortage in Nevada at this time, we feel the squandering of Nevada’s most important resource, water, to build an un-needed power plant would be both negligent and criminal.

· Nevada has a high incidence of unique aquatic life that has evolved in isolated springs. No studies have been conducted by Granite Fox Power LLC to determine the presence of rare aquatic species in springs that would be impacted by the amount of water needed.

Hazardous waste:

· There is no discussion of the mitigation that would be necessary to safely handle, ship, and store the hazardous wastes that would be needed and generated by such a facility. Again, to issue a permit prior to this important consideration would be negligent.

· There is no provision for the costs incurred by local and regional government in providing emergency and/or hazardous waste clean-up assistance.

Fire protection:

· Gerlach has an all volunteer fire department. There is no worst-case analysis of fire occurrence, or provisions for containment and control should an industrial fire occur, such as happened in recent memory at the Steamboat plant south of Reno. To expect an all volunteer fire department to protect the area from industrial fires is ludicrous.

· There is no provision for the costs incurred by local and regional government in providing emergency assistance in case of industrial fire.

Failure of the Application to Summarize the Environmental Studies:

· N.R.S. 704.870(2)(a) requires the applicant to provide a summary of the environmental studies that will be conducted in conjunction with the planning for the plant. The applicant has failed to include any such summaries but relies on environmental evaluation that will be accomplished by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management in conjunction with a right of way grant the applicant is seeking. This does not provide sufficient notice of the type and level of environmental analysis the applicant will provide.

Alternatives:

· The applicant has not provided project alternatives as required for informed decision making.

View-shed:

· The applicant has failed to account for the impacts to the viewshed of both federal and state lands, as required.

Economy:

· The applicant has not discussed or analyzed impacts, either negative or positive to the economy of the area.

We respectfully request that you require the applicant to remedy these oversights in the permitting process before proceeding with the permit. We request that these comments be placed in the permanent record of these proceedings and that our group be advised of any proceedings in time to make informed comments.

The application is for the connection facilities to tie the Power Plant to the DC Transmission line. We have until September 22 to send comments to the Commission on the application. Please see the comments below that I will be making through my attorney, Mike Van Zandt, for an outline of some of the important issues. I hope that many of you will be able to send in comments.

COMMENT POINTS RE: GRANITE FOX POWER LLC APPLICATION-- NEVADA UTILITY ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION ACT—DOCKET NO. 04-5027

Air Quality. The area of Washoe County is in attainment for all of the National Ambient Air Quality Standards. In the past Washoe County has experienced non attainment for ozone, particulates and carbon monoxide. The contributions of a coal fired electric power generating plant in Washoe County has the potential to cause increased non attainment days and potentially no attainment status for air quality standards in several categories. Since Washoe County is now in attainment status, the requirements of the Clean Air Act with regard to prevention of significant degradation (“PSD”) of the current air quality status must be addressed. Finally, there are some extremely sensitive areas in close proximity to the proposed plant location that will be affected by air pollutants. Among these are wilderness areas, refuges and sensitive habitat enclaves. It is vitally important that any potential impacts from the plant on these sensitive ar! eas be carefully evaluated.

Water Quality. Coal fired power plants can contribute to water quality degradation in several ways. First, the storage of the coal itself has the potential to contaminate groundwater and surface water through the leaching of metals, sulfuric acid and other contaminants if they are not controlled. Second, the plant itself must capture pollutants from its smoke stacks by using air pollution control technology, including the use of scrubbers that use large amounts of water. This water contains pollutants, is acidic and has the potential, if not managed properly to infiltrate to the groundwater, contaminating the underlying aquifers. Third, the use of water within the facility for equipment maintenance will generate wastewater that will have to be captured and treated or it too could escape into the aquifers.

Water Resources. Water resources in Nevada are scarce and precious. The amount of water that will be required to! operate this plant is unknown but it may require tens of thousands of acre feet of water annually. It is unknown at this time what source or sources of water have been or will be procured for this plant. More importantly, it is unknown what impacts the use of water by the plant will have on prior appropriators, surface water, groundwater, and the ability to recharge the aquifers. All of these issues must be carefully analyzed.

Biological Resources. The plant will be located near areas where there are sensitive biological resources, including those within refuges, wilderness areas, National Forest and other sensitive habitats. Because of the potential degradation of the surrounding environment caused by air pollution, water pollution, reduction of groundwater, generation of solid and hazardous waste, the impact on these biological resources could be devastating.

Waste Generation. The construction and operation of the plant will generate la! rge amounts of solid and hazardous waste, which must be managed. The capacity of Washoe County to manage the significant increase in waste from this plant must be carefully evaluated. Moreover, the ability of the county to oversee this waste generation and to ensure it is properly managed, stored, treated and disposed is crucial.
Hazardous Materials Management. The construction and operation of this plant will require the onsite storage and use of a variety of hazardous chemicals and materials. The existence of these materials will require a sophisticated hazardous materials management plan and associated emergency and contingency plans. The County will have a significant role in ensuring that the plant properly manages its hazardous materials and has prepared appropriate emergency and contingency plans. Training plans for plant workers and county personnel must be developed to deal with both normal management and emergency situations.&nb! sp; The cost to the county taxpayers for these increased responsibilities must be weighed as well.

Noise. The existing ambient noise environment will be impacted from both the construction and operation of the plant. Noise has a fatiguing effect on humans and the wildlife that exists near the plant may be adversely impacted by loud noises. Truck traffic will also add to the ambient noise environment. Noise generation from the plant itself must be mitigated and controlled and hours of operation for truck traffic should be set.

Transportation. The existence of an industrial facility near Highway 447 will generate a significant amount a traffic near the site. The impacts of this traffic, especially during construction, must be evaluated to ensure that the existing road bed and handle the traffic and that congestion and inordinate delays are not caused by the existence of the plant.
Power Needs. Since the plant will be intertied to ! an existing power transmission line and the power will be exported from Nevada, it is important that the needs of the citizens of Nevada be considered first. If this power plant is not needed for Nevada, then the question must be asked is this the appropriate place for a new power plant. Do the benefits of this new plant outweigh the detriments it will cause on the Washoe County environment? Should the citizens of Nevada bear the burden of the plant without any of its benefits? Are the jobs the plant creates worth the other impacts on environmental quality, quality of life and increased costs to the County?
Local Economy Impacts. There are positive and negative impacts from the plant on the local economy. First, there will be impacts from construction jobs. Some of these may be local hires but other workers will be brought from out of the local area. The purchase of supplies from local merchants during construction may also h! elp the local economy. Second, there will be longer-term jobs for the operation and maintenance of the plant. These jobs will contribute to the local economy. On the other hand, the use of the natural resources, air and water will be committed to this plant for an indefinite time. The taxpayers will be required to provide police and fire protections for the plant and the county will be required to inspect and oversee the hazardous activities inside the plant. Generation of waste water and solid and hazardous waste may create and issue of the county’s ability to store, treat and dispose of such wastes.

The analysis should also look at geothermal, natural gas, and petroleum powered plants. The alternative analysis should also consider other approaches within the plant for management of waste and water, as well as advanced technologies for air pollution.

I won't knock anyone for justifying why this occasion makes it okay to patronize an organization we wouldn't normally support (assuming we're all of the same opinion, which I'm sure we're not), do as you will, but I'd like to post a gentle reminder in the frenzied 11th hour scramble to get those last minute items, that a little suffering for what you stand for/against isn't so bad.

Ridicule RV-Girls!

Burning Man - Return Trip Plans

Please note out plan is to enjoy the burn on Sunday, then leave by 4am on Monday morning, get back to LA by 7pm or so Monday night. This gives us 15 hours to unpack, clean the RV, and sleep before it has to be returned on Tuesday morning. It must be back by 11am Tuesday.

What is with Apple?

You would think Steve Jobs and Apple would have learned their lesson after taking a superior system, the Mac, and turning it into a 3% market share product by trying to keep it proprietary.

Nope, they've gone and done it again with the iPod. It can only download music from iTunes store, and iTunes only works on the iPod. Huge article on it, front page of The Wall Street Journal today. Real Networks has apparently cracked their encryption technology and found a way for users to buy songs on the RealNetworks store and load them to the iPod.

Apple just doesn't get it, you should be able to buy iTunes and play them on any player, and you should be able to buy music at any online music store and play it on the iPod.

More than likely when Microsoft comes out with their online music service in 6 months, they will eventually dominate that market too, and at some point the Windows version of the iPod will dominate the music player market.

Those who don't learn from history are destined to repeat it......

Rev Dave Warden here from the world's greatest rave/rock/psychedellic/lounge/punk band THE SEROTONINS. Scrawling this note out in the 20 min of free time I have between my hour drive home and my weekly 7 hour session with Inger The Ambiguous Call Girl. Got to get out one quick letter to the party posse before a 6foot 9inch Puerto Rican sex goddess has me covered in lubricants and human love effluent and I can't touch the G-4 no more.

THE SEROTONINS are once again playing the world famous VIPER ROOM in West Hollywood, SATURDAY AUGUST 14th @ 10:30 P.M. Another walk on the wild side with the fine people of the Rainbow Coalition and the Yuppie-Rocker denizens of the world's gayest town. Our last show at The Viper was filled with classic rock n roll action due to an early sell out, psycho-stalker fans, light moshing and a few ejections from the venue early in the performance. The Special Ed tourbus was mobbed with a motley crew of burners, bikers and booty burgulars and there was much groopie-groping and warm liquor to be
had. Speaking of THE ORIGINAL BOOTY BURGLARS they will be closing the night out with their own special brand of Booty Piracy and I will try not to hump them....it is okay however if you want to try to hump them.

In response to a question in another tribe, I replied thusly:

If you only do one thing, let this be it!

TELL AN ORIGINAL TRUTH!

Don't just tell a general truth. That takes no balls and is therefore not interesting to anyone.

Open up and tell us something you YOURSELF have experienced.

For example when describing the color "Red":...

Okay "Embarrassment" That's general. That's easy and a waste of time. But a good starting point.

Now let's get personal and watch what happens....

What does RED taste, feel, smell, look, and sound like...TO YOU? Does it remind you of something?... When you were in high school? Did this thing embarrass you?

How about the time when I sneezed in math class and big loud fart came out. I don't think it smelled, but everyone knew it was me. The pretty girl to my left most certainly knew. The teacher HAD to know. But no one said anything. I didn't either. I just sat there sinking silently in my chair, my face turning a blue cold burgundy. I remember it to this day as one of my life's most embarassing moments....

So if I were asked to describe "red", this is what I might think of describing.

See how interesting that was?

Now look at the new and ORIGINAL color for RED i just got out of that exercise: "BLUE COLD BURGANDY".

I never would have arrived here w/o getting personal

Don't tell us a cliche metaphor like, "it was like 2 ships passing in the night" if you have NEVER been on ship and NEVER truly passed another ship during the night. That's DISHONEST and we all can see right through it. Those kinds of lines are reserved for coutry singers. Are you a country singer?

Rather, tell us something from YOUR OWN experience.

Also, Do everything you can to NOT exaggerate. People can sense that too. Then they won't believe and sympathize w/ you if you exaggerate.

How does one exaggerate? Don't be overly verbose. If you can use 1 word instead of 10, then just use 1.

Okay on that point I'll shut up.

Just a few things i try to think about when writing.

Okay, it's looking like we have 3 options for next years's location:

1) go with a known location like song Dog or Gold creek, both have size restrictions. We raise the ticket price a smidge and do the same event. We have water, teees, etc...

2) we get lucky and find a new, larger spot, or work with the forestry service to make one. Lots of work and nothing is for sure. The forestry service might eliminate our use of fire.

3) we use BLM land, give up the trees and water, take the size of spot we know we'll need and see if we can get permitted for a lake bed or something. With a single central system and more of a theme camp idea to other systems, we could end up with a lower ticket price and more of a BM feel to the event....

Proposition for Reflections 2005

Trunk:
Core of about 12 people who manage the entire event. Also, 1 main stage would be built with a paid sound system. An ecclectic array of big acts would be positioned on this stage.

Branches:
Bring a sound system, theme camp or large art installation to qualify for branch planning.

Sound systems:
Main system, managed by the trunk and music czar
Options for branch systems:
- Bring a system, run it your way ...thank you.
- Bring a system, organize with the music czar
- > receive small financial bonus (up to $200) and one main stage slot
- > or get no financial help, 4 main stage slots and 4 top billing notices

Music czar is a trunk position to organize musical entertainment. Purpose is to insure that acts do not receive conflicting times on different systems, and so that one type of music is not playing on all systems at any given time.
Czar will give sound system placement preferences to those camps that organize with him.
Czar selects acts for top billing, all official e-mails must include top acts.

Central fire art:
A large fire sculpture should be comissioned by Jan 1st. Perhaps a contest to see which designer gets to constuct the central pyre. Maybe even a different structure each year based on the theme, zodiac, etc.

Attendance:
Attendants would be required to support themselves for the weekend. Though we could talk about potties and such coming out of ticket prices.

Location:
Derek wants forest, and I like the idea too, but it may be very difficult to find one that will allow us to have a central fire, more than 1000 people at a time, etc. Private land is, of course preferred, though I'm not against working on BLM land. We'll need to start right after BM to do a legal event on BLM, though. We might be able to cut a deal with SB and have a forest fire unit on hand when the central pyre goes up...
